About this Event

Welcome to the TreesDurham Forum!

During this event we will learn and talk about trees, community engagement and environmental justice. You can ask questions of expert panelists, join small group conversations, have dinner, and take action at the tabling fair! The focus is on giving you plenty of room to learn, talk, ask questions, and give your thoughts on the future of Durham's Trees!

Sign up by September 20 for free dinner and child care!

Why the Trees?

Durham suffers from a patchy tree canopy due to tree die off, development, and the lack of investment in minority areas during the Redlining of the 1930s. Living in a neighborhood full of trees decreases your exposure to air pollution, increases your health, reduces your electric costs, and increases your community's cohesion. Because of all these benefits and more , we believe everyone should live, work and play around trees!

What Happens at The TreesDurham Forum?

First we learn and ask questions!

Speakers include Donald Addu of Clean Air Carolina, Joe Jackson of the Arbor Day Foundation, Tania Dautlick of Keep Durham Beautiful, and Scott Whitman of Durham's Planning Department

Next we discuss the future of Durham's Trees!

We break out into small groups to discuss what we see for the future of Durham's trees. Facilitated by the board of Durham Area Designers, this is your chance to create a vision for the future of Durham's trees!

Finally we eat & meet community groups to take action!

We eat dinner and visit with different community groups working on trees, the environment and social justice. Learn about what actions we can take to further Durham's tree canopy and more! This is free dinner and tabling event open to all, even if you can't make it to the rest of the conference!

The whole conference is free, and includes dinner and childcare. You can stay for as long (or short) of time as you can. Sign up now and we'll see you there!
