Mission
At Keep Durham Beautiful, our mission is to build environmentally just and healthy outdoor spaces in cooperation with Durham communities.
Vision
We believe that everyone in Durham should have access to clean, green, and beautiful outdoor spaces. We know that resources have not been equitably distributed historically. That’s why we listen and take action every day to learn about our community’s environmental needs. We help connect community leaders and partners with the resources to improve and beautify neighborhoods throughout Durham.

What do Board Members do?
Our Board members are strongly aligned with the Keep Durham Beautiful mission to engage volunteers and build partnerships to create a community free from litter where all residents have access to clean, green and safe neighborhoods.
Board members serve two-year terms. They attend six board meetings per year and review necessary materials before each meeting. Meetings currently take place via zoom for 90 minutes beginning at noon. Each member is also expected to lead one committee or hold another leadership role, and attend at least two volunteer events throughout the year.
Board members provide oversight of the financial condition of Keep Durham Beautiful. They are to remain informed of current programs and participate in fundraising activities. They commit to make a financial contribution that is meaningful to them and agree to help raise a value of at least $500 in donations or sponsorships per year.
Board members represent Keep Durham Beautiful in a positive and supportive manner in the community, with donors and volunteers.
Desired Skills and Experiences
Keep Durham Beautiful seeks a board that reflects the diversity of Durham. Our Board members are community-minded and dedicated to the organization’s mission to turn public spaces into beautiful, inspiring places where our residents feel connected.
We are particularly interested to receive inquiries from individuals with a strong development background, a passion for fundraising, marketing, communications, community engagement, or environmental stewardship. If you have the interest, we can find a meaningful role for you!
