Community Service instructions

For School-required, Court-Ordered, or Lawyer-Recommended community service hours

Welcome to the Keep Durham Beautiful Community Service Page. This page will help you understand the requirements, process, and opportunities available for earning community service hours with KDB.

  • We believe that engaging with our local environment fosters a sense of responsibility and enhances the beauty of Durham for all residents.

  • Service opportunities are dependent on staff availability and may not always be available. Complete the form below as the first step.

Requirements

Keep Durham Beautiful may accommodate volunteers performing court-ordered or lawyer recommended community service under the following conditions:

  • The volunteer must be 16 years old or older. (This does not apply to school-required community service.)

  • For Court-ordered or Lawyer-recommended service:

    • We accept only non-violent offences such as traffic violations, driving while impaired, misdemeanor drug charges, misdemeanor larceny, and non-violent misdemeanors.

    • We will not accept volunteers who have been accused of violent crimes, crimes of a sexual nature, or identity theft crimes.

    • KDB reviews all charges and reserves the right to decline any volunteer or to limit which days or hours a volunteer can work.

  • KDB reserves the right to dismiss a volunteer at any time during their scheduled time.

  • The volunteer must agree to, by signature, all documents in the community service packet.

All volunteers performing community service for court-ordered and lawyer-recommended hours must acknowledge these rules and guidelines in order to volunteer and properly receive an official verification of volunteer hours.

Volunteers will be able to sign and receive appropriate documentation in person. If we do not have the signed paperwork, Keep Durham Beautiful will not provide documentation of hours.
