What is a Bioblitz?

A BioBlitz is a community science initiative to help record and catalog the biodiversity of a given area within a certain time period. The Durham BioBlitz is a great way to connect people to their environment while generating useful data for science and conservation and having fun!

Volunteers will use the iNaturalist app to make observations during the project timeline, and expert identifiers will help turn these observations into data points that can be used in scientific research.

The 2025 Durham-wide BioBlitz will take place from About April 25-May 4.

Browse the links to the left to learn how to use iNaturalist or to join our events during a BioBlitz period, and discover Durham’s natural world with us. Note that you can make observations any time of the year!
