Please join Keep Durham Beautiful, TreesDurham, Leaf & Limb, and Duke Energy on March 9, 2019 from 11:30am – 2pm and help plant 50 trees at Durham Public School’s Year-round Pearsontown Elementary in South Durham.
Pearsontown is a racially and ethnically diverse school with 33% of students from low income families. Planting trees on the school grounds and playgrounds of Pearsontown is particularly important because the school year there starts in mid-July and kindergartners through 5th graders, teachers, staff, and after-school kids are out on the playground during the hottest parts of the summer. The shade from the trees will help provide relief from the heat, protection from harmful sun exposure, cleaner air, and much beauty! In addition, the trees will provide students with an opportunity for learning about the environment and serve as gathering spots at outdoor school events such as kindergarten graduation and International Night.
Training in tree planting, shovels, and gloves will be provided. However, if you have an extra shovel to bring along, that would be great! Coffee and snacks will be provided as well!
