Tree Planting at E. Lawson Street

  • East Lawson Street from S. Roxboro to Lincoln East Lawson Street Durham, NC United States (map)

Join Keep Durham Beautiful to plant trees along E. Lawson Street in the NC Central University region of Durham.

This event is sponsored by Planting Change for Environmental Justice and Health Equity in Durham.

Our goal is to increase tree canopy coverage in historically red-lined areas of Durham in order to combat structural racism and climate change, while promoting cardiovascular outcomes and environmental justice among community members.

This is a partnership between community organizations (Keep Durham Beautiful, TreesDurham & local Rotary clubs), Duke University (School of Medicine, Carbon Offset Initiative, & Global Health Institute), and the City of Durham.

Everyone is welcome to come help us plant - no experience is necessary! We will begin the day with a tree planting demonstration. Children under 14 should be accompanied by an adult. Shovels and gloves will be provided; if you would like to bring your own shovels please make sure they are labeled with your name.

Please wear long pants and closed toe shoes and dress in layers for the weather. Wear a mask while near others, and practice social distancing with those not in your household. Bring your own reusable water bottle to help us reduce waste. Some people like to bring a small backpack to carry along personal items.

NOTE: Exact meeting point and parking instructions will be emailed to registrants. Rain date is Dec 4.

There will be three shifts. Register for one or more:
