City of Durham Arbor Day 2019

Join Keep Durham Beautiful, City of Durham, and Durham Housing Authority in celebrating Arbor Day in Durham! Come out to learn about trees and tree care and to beautify the community. Ten large ball and burlap trees will be planted on Sima Avenue. There will also be a reading of the Arbor Day proclamation at 10:30 by Council Member Javiera Caballero and brief comments from NC Forest Service.

In addition to helping plant trees and learning about trees and their care, volunteers will also help pick up litter and cut back invasive plants and vines in Burton Park to improve usability of the park and make it safer and more accessible! Gloves, vests, tools and supplies will be provided.

Spectators welcome. Those coming to volunteer should dress in long pants, wear layers for the weather, wear sturdy closed toe shoes, and bring a water bottle. We will be set up at Burton Park adjacent to McDougald Terrace. You can park in any legal space along nearby streets.

This event is free and open to the public. City employees are encouraged to participate. Volunteer hours may be used with supervisor approval.
