Join us for a fun morning of tree planting, music, food, and more!
We will plant 29 trees, which will be a combination of flowering and shade trees, with a focus on native species. The locations were chosen to provide shade to the buildings and playgrounds.
We are partnering with the Global Scholars Academy, a charter school that uses an interdisciplinary and holistic approach to education to encourage their students to forge connections between academic fields and their personal lives out in world at large. They serve a 100% minority student population. The grounds are located on the former site of the Royal Ice Cream Parlor, which was the site of early anti-segregation protests.
The Global school was founded and is supported by the Union Baptist Church, the second major partner in our event. The Union Baptist Church was originally founded in 1897 by Aaron Moore and the White Rock Baptist Church.
