This year National Pollinator Week is June 17th - 24th, and in celebration we're hosting our first ever Pollinator Garden Tour - by bike! Registration is $10 in advance/$15 the day of, and includes a mead tasting (21+), refreshments, and giveaways from Burt's Bees. All proceeds go to support pollinator advocacy projects in Durham.
Join us for a casual 6-8 mile cruise through city streets and trails, where you'll get to experience some of the hidden gems that are keeping our pollinators happy in Durham! Selected sites include gardens, hives, bee hotels, and more.
We will begin our journey at the Durham Bike Co-op (1612 Acadia St), where you can make sure your bike is in good riding shape and visit the resident bee hive! Don't have a bike or not able to bring one? No problem! LimeBike will be on site with FREE bikes for those that need them - just make sure to mark it on your registration.
There will be approximately 10 stops on the ride, with guides at each site to give a brief 15 minute presentation and tour. We will end at Honeygirl Meadery (105 Hood St) for some exclusive mead tasting and the opportunity to find out what YOU can do to be a friend to pollinators from local non-profits and pollinator advocates. Light refreshments will be available thanks to generous donations from Guglhupf, Watt's Grocery, and Harvest 18.
This is a no-drop ride and suitable for all ages and abilities. Participants are expected to obey the rules of the road and wear a helmet. If you are transporting your bike to the event by car, feel free to park at either the beginning or end destination - we WILL offer a supported ride back to the Bike Co-op for those that need it.
