Adopt a Durham street and commit to keeping it litter free by organizing monthly cleanups.

Adopt-a-Street groups choose a 1-mile stretch of City-Maintained roadway and commit to removing litter along their adopted stretch once a month for a year. We are proud to include 25 groups in our current Adopt-a-Street program with 27 miles of Durham streets adopted.

Check out adopted and available streets on the map below. Eligible streets for adoption are city-maintained streets that have enough noticeable litter for monthly clean ups. Click the arrow in the top left to see the legend, and click on map segments to see their adoption status.

If you’re interested in adopting a Durham street, please read the program details below then fill out the interest form and we will follow up with you for the next steps!

Program Details

  • Interested parties fill out the interest form and select street(s). If you’re unsure about what street you would like to adopt, we’re happy to help you select one in need.

  • Each group signs a 1-year contract comitting to removing litter on their adopted streets once a month for the year.

  • KDB provides re-useable litter removal supplies on loan throughout the duration of the contract. Supplies are free, though donations are greatly appreciated and help stretch our capacity.

  • Each month you will report the results of your litter removal efforts to Keep Durham Beautiful through the reporting form below or an email to info@keepdurhambeautiful.org.

  • Most groups dispose of trash from cleanups themselves, but if your group is unable to, please let us know you need trash picked up and where the trash is located and we will arrange pickup.

  • If contract term ends and is not renewed, unused supplies must be returned to Keep Durham Beautiful.
