ECWA Creek Smart® Nature Walk

Help us celebrate Creek Week by learning about Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association's (ECWA) work around Durham to reduce stormwater runoff. Creek Smart® Coordinator Robert Meehan and Dr. (and retired NC State professor) Kathi Beratan will lead us on a walk from Pearl Mill Nature Preserve to Watts Elementary, finishing at the site of the South Ellerbe Stormwater Project to tour examples of stormwater mitigation projects in various stages of completion. Along the way, we will discuss how bioretentions, rain gardens, and cisterns can provide wildlife habitat and benefit the creek.

Plenty of street parking is available on Rand St and Green St. We will meet at the kiosk off of Green St (703 Green St, Durham, NC 27701).

The final stop (the South Ellerbe Stormwater Project at 808 W. Trinity Ave) will include a 6:30 p.m. dedication of artwork by local students for the fence along the future wetland. From this site, it is only a short walk down the S Ellerbe Creek Trail to return to your vehicle around Pearl Mill Preserve.

Following the dedication, Pinhook will host some Creek Week-themed trivia at 8:30 PM! Test your knowledge from the tour to win a bar tab or tickets to a show!

Please sign up on our website, as space is limited. Feel free to contact the ECWA Office at or 919-698-9729 with any questions or concerns. We hope to see you there!
