Ellerbe Creek Cleanup

Help clean up Ellerbe Creek by canoe! We will be removing trash from the Ellerbe Creek at Red Mill Rd, near where the creek empties into Falls Lake. SPACE IS LIMITED, RSVP REQUIRED. Contact Natasha Teasley by phone or email to reserve your spot. Due to safety concerns along Red Mill Rd, we will park and meet at the Eno River Boat Launch and then carpool to the Ellerbe Creek put-in. We encourage you to bring your own boat if you have one, just let Natasha know when you signup.

Get Wild!

Join the Triangle Land Conservancy as we celebrate Creek Week by exploring a stream at Horton Grove Nature Preserve. We’ll go on a short hike to the creek, use magnifying glasses and nets to discover the creatures that live there, and learn how keeping our water clean is good for everyone – from the tiniest bugs to you and me! This program is recommended for families with children ages 5 and up. Wading in the creek is optional, but we recommend wearing shoes that can get wet just in case (like old sneakers or rain boots). This event is free, but preregistration is required.

Stream Monitoring Training

Start a monitoring team in your area to monitor water quality in the Haw River Watershed. The training will consist of chemical analysis of the stream including pH, Nitrate, Phosphate, and Dissolved Oxygen. We will do a physical analysis, noting stream bank health, wildlife indicators, and smells. Lastly, we will do a biological analysis, sampling populations of macroinvertebrates in the water. This training is open to participants of all ages!
